Moisture Mapping Survey

Moisture mapping is a practical and visual way to determine the levels of moisture within the roof build up. A moisture mapping survey works by sending a signal from the machine to the roof deck, the speed at which this signal bounces back determines the level of moisture at that point.

We take a plan of the roof onto which we draw a grid. We then take a reading at each grid point and plot this onto the plan, resulting in a visual representation of the moisture levels within the existing roof build up.

This can then be used to determine which areas of the roof either require stripping, venting or vacuuming depending on the client’s requirements. More importantly, it also determines which areas are dry and can be retained and either overlaid with a new waterproofing system or utilised as part of a thermal upgrade, not only cutting costs but keeping the thickness of any new insulation to a minimum and perhaps preventing existing details from being raised.

We then thoroughly inspect the existing waterproofing for defects. These can differ depending on the type of waterproofing and can range from gas or water blisters to delamination of laps on single ply or felt systems to lack of film thickness on liquid systems. We check the existing falls of the roof and measure any areas of ponding water and check existing outlets, etc. to determine whether the roof is draining efficiently.

We measure all up stand heights and check all other details such as roof lights, plant, mechanical and electrical equipment, pipe penetrations, etc.

Our decades of experience mean that our clients have the peace of mind that the reports we produce are accurate and diagnose the root cause of any issues.
