We recently shared a case study of an installation of ours on LinkedIn which attracted some concerning comments by a person who works in the industry and we detail this below.
The comment,
‘as a competent latchways provider (your words not mine), why are you not fitting slip indicators as standard (as they are provided free of charge) and why, if the roof is deemed worthy of a fall protection system are your engineers not wearing harnesses or attached to anything. 🤔’
The points 1-4 listed below was our response.
1. swage slip indicators are not free.
2. permanent pen marker does the exact same job as a swage slip indicator.
3. item 2 as advised as ‘trick of the trade’ at official training.
4. engineers are sat in the doorway, scaffold present on the roof.
Another contributor questioned the weather detail. We had to explain that this is what is known as a ‘temporary detail’ which is good for 24-48 hours until full weathering can be undertaken and there are many reasons for this.
These are the very basics of fall protection and working at height.
fallarrest.com exists to educate the market and we strongly recommend that this engineer uses the source, it’s free.
It’s worth noting also that this is an actual genuine MANSAFE LATCHWAYS post cable protection system so the client will benefit from a complete warranty and guarantee for the post penetration and their insurances will not be void in the event of any accidents.
This demonstrates why you must undertake your due diligence when appointing a fall protection business or contractor, because not all is always as it seems!
